Course Information

The Puppy Returners course is for puppies/dogs who have completed their Puppy Foundation Course with Cardiff Canine Citizens. This course should be great fun and the dogs will build on previously taught behaviours but we will be challenging them with new skills. Puppies will be ‘working’ for the majority of the time with little down time for them to become bored! We will be looking at some of the Wag It Games foundation behaviours. We will also cover clicker and target training. Your puppy will love it I’m sure! We aim to have some fun with the dogs whilst teaching them some valuable life skills!

You will also receive a FREE bag of Feelwells Treats and a certificate and rosette after successful completion of the course.

This course will also cover the elements required for the KC GCDS Bronze Award but for those wishing to take the test that will be by arrange and not during this course and there will be a addition charge of £10 to attempt that test (payable at time of booking the test).

Course Information
The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is the largest dog training programme in the UK. All dogs are able to participate, crossbreeds, pedigrees and natures dogs! The scheme incorporates everyday training exercises to help your dog become a good companion, rather than competitive obedience exercises. The Scheme is non-competitive. We have a wide variety of breeds and owners in our classes and this is beneficial to all the dogs as this is how it is in the ‘real world’!

In this class we will teach:

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Leave
  • Heel
  • Recall
  • Stay
  • Not to Jump Up
  • Doorway Control
  • Grooming/Handling Skills

At the end of the course, on week six there will be the opportunity for class members to attempt their Bronze Award Test. The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze Award aims to produce a dog that will walk and behave in a controlled manner on the lead, will stay in one position on command, will allow its owner to clean, groom and inspect it. The dog must also be able to be positioned by its handler for inspection i.e. stand, sit or lie down on either side or on its back, all on the lead. The dog must come to hand when called. The Bronze award aims to provide the handlers with a basic knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.

What is included in this course?
  • You will receive a FREE bag of Feelwells Adult Lamb & Rice, Probiotic, Natural, Healthy Dog Treats and a voucher for a FREE 1.5kg-4kg bag of Royal Canin Dog Food.
Practical Sessions
Your dog is required for all practical sessions.

We don’t permit or advocate the use of aversive or punitive equipment or behaviour towards dogs in our classes. All of our training is reward based and relies upon positive reinforcement to teach our dog how we would like it to behave. We all would like a well behaved and obedient dog but you can’t blame the dog if you fail to train the dog! They need to be taught how to behave, they aren’t born knowing this!

Due to a particularly virulent strain of Kennel Cough, around at present, I would advise all clients to consider having their dog inoculated against this disease at least two weeks prior to attending classes. This is a subject best discussed with your own veterinarian. I am aware that this doesn’t prevent all strains of Kennel Cough but I feel that it may be a sensible precaution, although I’m happy for clients to take this decision themselves and not insist upon it. Protection against Kennel Cough is not part of a standard vaccination programme.

Classes have a maximum of twelve dogs in a class, to ensure that each dog gets the individual tuition they require but also that we have enough dogs to practice our exercises around. Some dogs will listen to their owners when in the home environment but not when out in the exciting, big, wide world! Our classes aim to address this.

Classes are designed to be fun and informative for the whole family and you are welcome to bring children to the classes and they can participate in training their dog. However, children shouldn’t be running around and distracting the other dogs or approaching any of the other dogs.

Previous clients are welcome to continue to purchase from our shop, even when they have finished training with us! We would ask that you either contact us with your shopping list and we will assemble your order ready for you or shop with us either prior to classes starting or at the end of the weekly sessions.
