“Even the tiniest Poodle or Chihuahua is still a wolf at heart.” – Dorothy Hinshaw Patent, Dogs: The Wolf Within
Socialisation and play groups
If you’ve ever read a book or watched a television programme about dog training, you’ll probably know that every dog owner should ‘socialise’ their dog. This means exposing your dog to as many different people, other dogs, places, situations, sounds, etc as possible.
But what if your dog is ‘snack-sized’ to other dogs?
It’s natural to feel protective of your dog if it’s a toy breed, but carrying him or picking him up to ‘protect’ him will deny him the essential social skills he needs to become a balanced dog.
Socialisation HAS to happen with all four paws on the ground!
This is important for all small breeds, but especially so if your small dog is already displaying signs of anxiety around other dogs (lowered stance, tail tucked between the legs, pulling back on the lead on meeting other dogs).
If you own a toy or mixed toy breed, that is not aggressive, why not enquire about my Toys and Tinies classes. He can make some friends of his own size whilst developing the confidence to mix with the big boys.
Classes £45 for six weeks and run subject to demand
