The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is the largest dog training scheme in the UK.  It has tree levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold aimed at progressively gaining increasing control and understanding of our canine companions. It’s open to all dogs regardless of age or breed. The aim of the Scheme is to promote responsible dog ownership and in turn, enhance our relations with our canines, and to make the community aware of the benefits associated with owning dogs.

What will I need?

This course is for six weeks and one hour a week. On the first evening you will require your payment either cash or cheque for £45 (cheques made payable to Cardiff Canine Citizens) and for that week and the following five weeks, you will require your dog wearing a well-fitting collar (no check/choke chains please) or a harness and an ordinary lead (rather than an extending lead), some small, tasty treats, poo bags, a toy and a grooming implement. Also try to ‘empty’ your dog prior to classes by allowing your dog ample toileting opportunities. It may also be advisable either to only feed a small meal several hours before or not to feed your dog just before attending class, as all of our training is reward based he/she is less likely to work for treats if already full!

A recommended variety of dog treats, chews, toys and grooming implements are available for purchase during training classes. Those not attending class may make purchases up to half an hour before class. See below for details of times and locations.
